British Military emergency escape parachute canopy was manufactured in 1981 by Irvin Great Britain Ltd, Letchworth, Hertfordshire.

This specific model, the Parachute Type I 24 Mk3, was engineered as a critical lifesaving component built directly into the Martin-Baker ejection seats of high-performance Royal Air Force fighter jets and training aircraft. Featuring its original manufacturer's data patch and inspection stamps, this highly collectible canopy is a centerpiece for militaria collectors, aviation enthusiasts, or creative up-cycling projects.

Historical Significance & Design

Unlike standard paratrooper chutes, this emergency canopy stayed packed inside the cockpit's ejection seat until a crisis arose. In an emergency ejection sequence, the seat would fire into the air, stabilise using a drogue chute, and mechanically deploy this main I 24 Mk3 canopy automatically once reaching a safe altitude and airspeed.

The canopy features alternating panels of high-visibility rescue orange and tactical olive green. This configuration allowed pilots to remain concealed if down in hostile territory, while providing massive, vibrant visual panels that could be spread out on the ground to signal Search and Rescue helicopters from miles away.

IMPORTANT: Sold strictly as a historical collectible and historical artifact. Not rated or certified for functional aviation or parachuting use.
