Vintage Duckhams 2-Stroke Oil Pump / Dispenser
The Duckhams 2-Stroke Oil Pump is a classic piece of British garage equipment, originally found in service stations and workshops during the height of the 2-stroke motorcycle and scooter era. Rather than being an engine component, this pump served as a forecourt oil dispenser, allowing riders to draw the exact amount of 2-stroke oil they needed when topping up their machines.
Unrestored, as found.
What It Was Used For
Before modern oil-injection systems became widespread, owners of 2-stroke bikes regularly had to add oil separately from fuel. The Duckhams dispenser made that process cleaner and more accurate. With its hand-operated pump and built-in measuring feature, it provided a reliable way to dispense the correct amount of oil without the mess of tins or improvised measuring cups.
Design & Features
Typical Duckhams units were built around a sturdy metal reservoir topped with a manual pump handle. Many included a simple graduated measuring system, allowing users to pump out precise quantities of oil—ideal for small motorcycle oil tanks or for mixing fuel/oil blends. Finished in distinctive Duckhams branding, the pumps were eye-catching fixtures in garages across the UK.
A Piece of Motoring History
Duckhams, a major name in British lubrication, was widely trusted by motorcyclists, so these dispensers became a familiar sight through the 1960s and 1970s. Today, surviving examples are prized by collectors of automobilia thanks to their charming industrial design and strong association with the golden age of 2-stroke transport.
